Overview
Coronary angiography is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure that uses X-ray imaging and contrast dye to create detailed pictures of your coronary arteries. During the procedure, a thin, flexible tube called a catheter is carefully guided through a blood vessel, typically in your wrist or groin, to reach your coronary arteries.
A special contrast dye is then injected through the catheter, making your coronary arteries visible on X-ray images. This procedure is considered the gold standard for diagnosing coronary artery disease and provides your cardiologist with precise information about the location, severity, and extent of any blockages or narrowing in your coronary circulation.
